Jamison Ross is a singer and drummer that delivers messages of humanity through the medium of jazz. His second album [untitled] on Prestige Records (formerly Concord Jazz) is slated for release Fall 2017 supported by a U.S. tour. “This record is an expression of my concept of the many shades of love that the world needs, said Jamison.”
The Jacksonville, FL native realized his love for music growing up in his grandfather’s church. His love for jazz came sometime later during high school at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts. He continued his study of the genre at Florida State University (B.A.), where he met his current band members and at University of New Orleans (M.M.), in the city where he currently resides. In 2012, Ross’ career began to take shape after winning the Thelonius Monk Jr. International Jazz Competition for his drumming. This achievement afforded him a recording contract with Concord Jazz. Jamison remembers, “at the time, people knew me as a drummer; they didn’t know I could sing. I wanted to merge my gifts.”
His 2015 debut release, Jamison, introduced the world to his concept of rhythm and melody and also garnered a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album. His sophomore release takes the audience a level deeper into Jamison’s ethos. It is rhythm and melody, it is honest and it is love.
